Some facts about cancer:
There are more than 100 different types of cancer |
All
cancers begin in cells, the body's basic unit of life. When cells become old or
damaged, they die and are replaced with new cells. However, sometimes this
orderly process goes wrong. The genetic material (DNA) of a cell can become
damaged or changed, producing mutations that affect normal cell growth and
division. When this happens, cells do not die when they should, and new cells
form when the body does not need them. The extra cells may form a mass of
tissue called a tumor.
It is estimated that 50% of all cancer can be linked to
lifestyle and are therefore preventable according to the UN's public health arm
in its World Cancer Report. Some of the main drivers are obesity, bad diet,
consumption of tobacco, alcohol, lack of physical activity.
Despite promising advances, it is apparent that we cannot
treat our way out of the cancer problem. More commitment to prevention and
early detection is desperately needed in order to complement improved
treatments and address the alarming rise in the cancer burden globally.
You can focus on the prevention and detection of cancer which can be achieved as follows:
Prevention
- Food advise
- Physical activity
- Lifestyle
Early Detection
- Cancer Blood Panel
- Full Body Scan
- Genetic testing
